In parts of the Netherlands the weather is fantastic today. But in the South-Eastern part where I life it’s gray, cold and when you look at the sky you get the idea that it can start raining any moment. Not the kind of weather I hoped for at this time of the year. But there’s an upside to every downside: with this kind of weather I like to treat myself with a homemade Chai Latte! Heated almond milk, chai spices, and a drizzle of honey. Snuggled under a (also homemade) blanket and slowly sipping the warming Chai and enjoying the lovely smell of those gorgeos spices!
Not only I needed some warmth today, I also was in desperate need for some energy! Had a few ‘broken’ nights, awake way too early in the morning and long days teaching at school. It took it’s toll today when I came home from work and I needed to relax and reload. So not just a Chai Latte, but instead I made myself this Chai Smoothie as an afternoon snack. With a few adjustments you can turn it into a breakfast as well.
Chai Smoothie
- 1 Banana
- 100 ml Coconutmilk
- 100 ml Almond milk
- 1 tbsp of almond butter
- 1 tsp Chai mix (see below)
- 1 tsp Maple syrup (Agave, Palmsugar or Honey will do as well)
- 1 tsp Maca powder
If you’d like to turn it into a breakfast dish, also add oats, flaxseed, wheatgerms or chiaseeds!
Chai Mix
- 2 tbsp ground Cardomom
- 2 tbsp ground Cinnamon
- 1 tbsp ground Gloves
- 1 tbsp ground Black Peper
- 1 tbsp ground Ginger
- 1 tbsp ground Nutmeg
- 1 tbsp ground All Spice
Mix all the spices and store in an airthight container or a glass jar. This way you always have some Chai mix at hand to add to a smoothie or to make yourself a lovely warm Chai Latte!
After enjoying my homemade smoothie I took myself some time to relax after this busy week and crocheted for a while. This is such a lovely and soothing hobby to me! Love the fact you can create all kinds of nice stuff. For example the bunting in the picture, which is hanging on one of our doors now.
